Why do you need a grazing mask for horses?
Preventing overgrazing, unwanted weight gain, laminitis, colic and obesity are some of the most serious diseases. Grazing and weight management are really very important parts of prevention. Grazing during the day plays a crucial role in horses' digestive health, as the constant presence of grass keeps stomach acids occupied and balanced.
With our ThinLine Flexible Grazing Mask you give your horse all the great benefits of grazing.
This ThinLine Flexible Grazing Mask differs from the typical heavy, challenging and “cage-like” grazing masks of the past. We listened to horse owners like you and designed this to be softer, lighter and less restrictive. Made from a durable and pliable material that radically improves comfort, it is also gentle on horse teeth and lips.
The Flexible Filly Grazing Mask is well ventilated and safe, especially in combination with the ThinLine Flexible Breakaway Halter.
Are you still unsure which one to choose?
Which size should you choose for the ThinLine Flexible Grazing Mask?
Our ThinLine Grazing Mask for Horses is available in 3 sizes:
- Mini / Pony grazing mask
- Cob / Horse grazing mask
- Oversize / Draft horse grazing mask

- Make sure your barbell fits well. The rule of thumb is about 2 fingers below the jawbone.

About the size of the grazing holes. Good to know!
Veterinarian recommendations for safe grazing in an equine grazing mask is a 3,5 to 4 inch grazing hole for 24/7, full-time grazing. And 2 cm for very limited grazing, often required for horses with metabolic problems. The industry standard is ±3 cm.
Now it's easy to work with your veterinarian to ensure horses can graze safely in every pasture. This is why we have 2 grazing holes to choose from:
- 3,5cm (Normal Limitation)
- 2,5 cm (High Limitation, Laminitis, etc.)
What do you need for your ThinLine Flexible Grazing Mask?
We recommend that you purchase a special, well-fitting BreakAway Pasture Halter for your horse's grazing mask. It usually takes about 10 minutes to get everything perfect the first time you install a ThinLine Flexible Grazing Mask. Subsequent BreakAway Halters will take approximately 3 minutes.
You can find our specially made breakaway halter here: ThinLine Flexible Breakaway Halter
How do you attach your Flexible Grazing Mask?
Watch this short 5-step video, and you'll understand in no time!
Step 1
Use the supplied paper tie-wraps or string to find the best holes to attach your grazing mask to your halter. The paper tie-wraps are a temporary aid that allows you to easily adjust the fit.
Step 2
Two of the “fins” have a triangular cutout. You attach these to the square (side) rings of your pasture halter. Connect three fins to the noseband, one in the middle, and the other two fall naturally to the sides of the center. Connect three fins to the chin strap; one in the center, two naturally on the sides of the center.
Step 3
First attach each fin with a triangular cutout with one of the included zip ties. Do not wrap the fins around the halter as this can cause chafing.
Step 4
When properly installed, the grazing bar should rest close to, but not against, the horse's nose. If the grazing mask touches the nose, lengthen the fins under the chin, this will lift the grazing mask off the nose.
Step 5
Once you are satisfied that you have the correct holes aligned with the halter, remove the paper tie-wraps or string and permanently secure the grazing mask with the zip ties provided. After you have found the best fit for your horse, cut the excess fin material just above the top hole being used.
It's okay to wait a day or two to make sure your grazing mask is a comfortable distance from your horse's mouth before clipping. The cable tie “holder” is on the outside of the grazing mask and the excess points downward and is cut off nearby.
If you have fitted the grazing mask properly and the grazing mask is the right size, it will work great. If you find there is too much grazing space, make sure your fins are securely attached to your halter. The fins should not move along the noseband; if so, tighten the cable tie.
How do you care for your ThinLine grazing mask?
Very simple!
- First, you can put the grazing mask in a laundry net and wash it in cold water with detergent and a teaspoon of bleach.
- Second, for a more thorough cleaning, place it in a bucket with dish soap and a capful of bleach.
What materials are used in the ThinLine Flexible Grazing Mask?
The ThinLine Flexible Filly Grazing Mask is made from one of the most durable polymers on the planet. It is mold and UV resistant. It is safe, effective and durable. That is, there are no "gaseous" materials, so they are safe near the nostrils. Even if accidentally swallowed, the polymers comply with U.S. food safety regulations.
The grazing mask for horses is ideal for slowing down fast eaters, limiting grazing and can help combat minor cribbing problems. In addition, the ThinLine Flexible Grazing Mask can also prevent horses from gnawing on puttees, wood or blankets. It works extremely well with all automatic water bowls and provides UV protection, which acts as sunscreen for those sensitive noses.
Return and Warranty?
Since it is the most horse-friendly and flexible grazing aid that prevents tooth damage and skin friction, please ensure that your horse the slightest chance has to get stuck somewhere in the field. This is actually a MUST for all types of grazing masks for the safety of your horse! The original ThinLine ZipTies en Break Away Halter must always be used

Great Muzzle and the only one that I feel is humane and easy to wear for the horse. Can be a bit fiddly to set up but once it's all done it works a treat. I can now leave my horse out 24/7 and not have to bring her in every day off the grass. She is losing weight and starting to get her figure back. Thoroughly recommend it and have 2 friends who are now buying them for their horses.

Not cheap but worth it because it works. Pony accepted it straight away and quickly work out how to get grass through the hole. She has to work hard to get grass. Pony has lost weight and Ems reduced to near normal, our fat and I are delighted with the results. I am not a fan of muzzles but bought as a result of Dr David Marlins muzzle survey and have to say it is a game changer.

Seems a lot kinder than other types. I have increased the hole size which wasn't easy and my horse is still learning to use it. It takes a bit of time for a horse not used to a muzzle. However I have friends who use the muzzle so I was expecting this.

I've had the same Thinline muzzle with breakaway headcollar for over two years. It is in almost constant use as my Dartmoor mare is such a good doer. I try and give her periods without it but there is just so much grass and being laminitis prone it's very difficult to balance her health needs versus her psychological needs. I have to say she really doesn't seem to mind wearing at all. There is never any fuss or headshying when I put it on. There have been no rubs, callouses other than the hairs around her muzzle are a bit stubbly and she does occasionally manage to roll and it comes over one ear. It has provided the only workable solution which allows her to graze and roam at will without needing to be restricted to a muddy starvation paddock or stables which she hates.

The muzzle and head collar were a great fit and my young horse has tolerated wearing it well. All done and grazing in his field safely. 1 x happy owner + 1 x happy horse.

New style muzzle is better good as it stops them eating grass from the sides. Anti rub attachment broke when the horse rubbed its head on the fence. The big buckles either side of the head collar need to be smaller as it means they can rub it off more easily.

These muzzles are amazing!
I tried a bucket style one on my connemara pony when I first got him. It was an utter disaster!! it took me a month after trying one to regain his trust and for him to catch again….I was very reluctant to try again but after a footie few days after a huge surge in grass after a very dry summer a friend lent me hers to try and he took to it instantly!!
I have the muzzle and the headcollar and it is brilliant. No rubs, no worries, no damaged teeth and I can see the weight shifting. My friends has certainly stood up to any play in the herd and hopefully mine will too.
This muzzle has been a total game changer and I am delighted I have another tool to help me manage his grass intake next spring and keep the weight off!!

Amazing product, 100% recommended! It looks so flimsy in the pictures but it's actually really sturdy and strong while being totally soft and flexible. Being seen through means my mare's friends can still read her facial expressions too, so it's easier for the herd to accept her.
There's no rubbery odor, unlike other muzzles I'd tried, so my mare accepted it very readily. Air flow through it is great, she can drink normally from the field trough, graze as much as she likes without taking in too much, stay out all night with her friends and there's not been a single rub anywhere (although I did have to try 3 different headcollars til I found one that fitted well enough to be left on 24/7. The thinline one was out of stock in her size and I couldn't wait or I'd have got that too). So impressed. Wish I'd spent the money on this the first time round instead of wasting £20 a time on various other muzzles that were restrictive, smelly and rubbed her sore on the chin, lips or nose. The Thinline customer support is fantastic too. I'd definitely recommend both this company and this muzzle!

I really like this grazing muzzle, so light and almost like the horses don't have any on. I have been throwing some usual grazing muzzle and they always hot and not enough airflow, one of my horses felt very closed in them and was getting them off all the time. Now they are not bothered and the airflow is good in them and best of all it doesn't affect the teeth. I live in Sweden and it was very hard to find a good grazing muzzle. Then I saw your muzzle a time ago on Instagram and finally this year I bought them for our shetland pony (have had laminitis) and our Norwegian fjordhorse thank you for a great product

Great item! My Shetland had a bout of lamanitis this year and was on box rest. Done my research and found this grazing muzzle and it means she can be out with the herd having fun instead of getting in-hand grazing for 1/2 hour at a time. It is very expensive in comparison to other muzzles available but definitely the best I have used. She still comes in every day for a few hours to get it taken off and have a rest but she is a very happy pony having fun with her pals every day now which is lovely and the best for her mental health xx thank you xx

I love this product. This is the 2nd one I have purchased now. The first one was such a welcome relief, I have tried so many other brands of muzzles before discovering Thinline. None of them lasted more than an hour on my Houdini pony! She's had her Thinline muzzle over 18 months now. So when I needed a muzzle for another pony, I naturally ordered him the Thinline too. He's older so I wanted something I knew he would find comfortable. He is also Alfa male in my little herd, so it was important to me that he could still communicate with the other ponies, and not have his natural behaviors inhibited. I would never use another brand of muzzle again now

I have found the solution to my mares health with this muzzle. Firstly, this is the only muzzle I have used that she will except without complaint. My mare has a history of laminitis and I have to monitor her grass intake carefully. The muzzle fits onto a safety headcollar and is very adjustable. It's kinder as she can breathe and sniff her paddock friends, her nose is not covered and when she eats it allows room for her to do so comfortably. The fitting takes some time but only until you are used to making a few adjustments, I found if she could eat out the sides the muzzle was too low and also I pulled in the front tabs a little, and problem solved! I have two muzzles as I was kindly sent a replacement, I use one for spring grass that has a smaller hole, the second I have made the hole bigger to allow more grass but still controlled. This method stops my mare getting really hungry as she can get very grumpy about having her food restricted. You can make the hole larger very easily. Once i was happy with the fit i cut the tabs down to size so it looks very neat and also added some sheepskin to the noseband. I have had no issues with the muzzle causing rubbing or soreness. It's simply fantastic and I would recommend this product for anyone who has a horse that needs a controlled diet. It allows the freedom to be a horse and have turnout without compromising her health. 10 stars from me.

I'm very satisfied with the ThinLine Flexible muzzle. I have the impression my horse finds it much more comfortable than the other muzzle I used. He ripped that other one into pieces… two times.
I was a bit nervous. The ThinLine muzzle is more expensive. Would it hold? Would my horse be more happy wearing it and not rip it off his head. The answer to both questions is 'yes'! So, untill now, I'm very relieved and happy that I bought the ThinLine Flexible Muzzle 🙂

Great Service! The mask is flexible and light. The size needs some fine-tuning on my arab, but it is adjustable (with new tiewraps) so it will work out fine.
I am curious to see whether the softer than fleece paddings (additional purchase) indeed is that soft. It feels smooth but the edges are not. We will wait and see…

So pleased with this muzzle. My horse's old muzzle was wearing his front teeth away, so I'm really glad to find this one which is really soft and flexible so easy on his teeth. It's really lightweight and my horse has no rubs or problems with getting too hot. It's also really easy to adapt the size of the hole. Would recommend to anyone!

This is the second one I've bought. I consider my horse deserves this light muzzle especially in hot weather. Having this muzzle has meant that she can go out in the field and be a horse and not get ill.

My horse is able to breathe much better with the open design of the muzzle. A bit tricky to fit but once fitted works great. Cutting the hole slightly bigger was a challenge but I managed.

Replacement muzzle as my pony managed to spill around the hole (discoloured plastic which I think is due to the fertiliser the farmer puts on all the grazing fields!). I love this muzzle as it is light, airy, easily rinsed to keep it clean and does not cause massive rubs on the head.

Great muzzle, seems to be much kinder than others although my cob did manage to get it off so I had to adjust it. My minis wear them too and seem to be ok in them,

Complicated to fit and bangs has found ways to adjust it to allow more grass ingress. Am concerned she is not drinking with it on though

The actual muzzle is wonderful, with careful monitoring I've been able to use it over the heatwave, the fit is really good and my mare no longer walks off when I appear with the muzzle. It also seems to slow her down more than previous muzzles so she's able to stay out longer. I'm keen to get one for our other pony too. I used my own head collar but going forwards I'll probably order their one for a better fit.

Amazing muzzles for fit and comfort, bit fiddly to set up right but great customer support to help me get things right. Four stars as my first one wore out around the hole, hoping the replacement will be more robust

Needs some adjustment to get right and to make sure the headcollar it is on doesn't rub but a really great product.

My horse hated all the previous grazing muzzles I tried and I had a battle to get them on her. It took a bit of trial and error to fit, but she is accepting the thin line grazing muzzle with halter no problems. Happy horse, happy owner! Really impressed with the speedy delivery and customer service too. Highly recommend!

Absolutely LOVE this muzzle. We now have 3 “laminitis risk” ponies wearing them on our livery yard, and am expecting to have to purchase a few more as the grass this year is prolific! Simple design, but the ponies easily adapt to the technique needed to graze through the hole…..and they stay on! Unlike other muzzles, the flexible material makes them comfortable to wear. Would thoroughly recommend to anyone wishing to restrict grass intake of their horse

I regularly need to muzzle my cob using the traditional style webbing bucket muzzle that he always tries to remove. Others at my livery yard were purchasing the Thinline muzzle which seems much kinder, and I'm very pleased that I did too! Easy to attach and gives him really good ventilation. No need to make the hole any larger at the moment- he appears to be quite content with his new muzzle.

I love this muzzle and my horse doesn't object to having it on. I always put a carrot in the hole to encourage him to put his nose in, but even this doesn't work with the bucket type muzzles.

I cannot recommend these muzzles highly enough! My ponies love them! They don't damage their teeth like others that I've used and they don't make them look like Hannibal lecturer either!
They have UV protection which is great for my pink nosed ponies. Super easy to fit.

Great grazing muzzle, my horse took to it straight away and it doesn't rub him anywhere. It was very fiddly to fix onto a headcoller but once it's on correctly it is fine.

Absolutely love this. I have used a wide variety of muzzles for my Houdini horse who can escape from any muzzle and this wins hands down. Love that it so spacious and none restricted around the nose. My horse seems very happy in this and we have managed to keep it on !!
Only thing I would request to change are a few extra zip ties with the muzzle.

Lightweight, easy to assemble, durable. Does chafe a tiny bit, but we are using it up to about 12-15 hours per day. It has been ripped off once by our horse. Did exactly what it was supposed to do: tie rips broke, but muzzle was unharmed. Perfect. So, indeed make sure that the tie rips you use do break, if you are not using the original ones.

The Flexible Filly Muzzle is really comfortable and my horse doesn't seem to mind wearing it at all. It was easy to fit to the field safe flexible breakaway dumbbell which is worth the higher price. My only wish is that the muzzle of this quality and price could be ordered with a customized hole size. The one which is there is clearly too small if you want to use the muzzle for grazing. And cutting it bigger was not quite as easy as I thought it would be. Cutting it also weakened the muzzle and it has started to crack away on the edge of the hole. I am sure it would be a lot stronger if it was professionally machine cut to the size specified when a customer orders the muzzle. Or perhaps muzzles with different hole sizes could be offered. I find an oval shaped hole, 3 x 4 cm a good size for all day or night grazing. But I can see that some might want it slightly bigger and some slightly smaller. Otherwise a great and comfortable product which, when paired with the flexible breakaway dumbbell, stays on securely. I will certainly buy another one to replace the present one if the problem with the hole size can be solved.

Fantastic muzzle – something I have been searching for. Lightweight. Safe. Comfortable. Breathable. Soft for mouth and teeth. Acts as a good sun barrier too for light noses. I feel less guilty putting on and horse doesn't mind it. Recommended buying headcollar and comfort pads for the complete set. You won't be disappointed and it's well worth the money. Don't waste time with other muzzles which rub and restrict breathing. Thanks.

Got two now for my cobs. Very flexible and lightweight. They can still eat but at a reduced rate. This means I can leave them on overnight or several hours in the day.

I have used other muzzles and my horse experienced rub marks and sore patches but within days of using this muzzle they were all healing well. I bought the muzzle headcollar and pads and I am glad I did as the head collar helped with fitting. The customer service team confirmed it was fitted correctly for me. My mare is comfortable in this muzzle 24/7. The hole was a little difficult to make bigger and a sharp blade was better than scissors.

Great idea and gentle on the teeth. However, the ponio can eat through the side slits due to the Thinline halter not staying put. The muzzle stained immediately and would look lovely in a color rather than white/clear.

Excellent muzzle. Wouldn't go back to the heavy canvas bucket type ones. Tried so much but it always seemed to rub my sensitive skinned pony even padded out with sheepskin. I was dubious about trying this one as it seemed such a lot of money but it was well worth it. It's so light, flexible and looks so much more comfortable with my horse eating fine with it. Found the video really helpful in getting the correct fit and was easy enough to do. The company were also very helpful in answering a question I had about sizing. Highly recommended.

Excellent product – my horse has been very distressed with other grazing muzzles, not eating and with rubs on his face. It's early days, but he immediately accepted the ThinLine flexible grazing muzzle, and is happily eating without any stress and with no rubbing. Service was quick (even to UK post-Brexit) and instructions were clear. Highly recommended!

The grazing muzzle is perfect for my colored cob with a sensitive pink nose as it provides UV protection and is extremely flexible.
I was very skeptical when I ordered this item as it looked like a very expensive piece of plastic. However, whilst it is very flexible and soft it appears to be very hard wearing. Because it is flexible it appears much more comfortable than other muzzles.
It was easy to fit following the instructions provided in the pack and after watching the video. I got my husband to help me but with a well behaved horse you could probably manage on your own.

I have recently purchased the grazing muzzle. This is the first muzzle I have ever used for my pony. From day one she accepted the muzzle and is waiting every morning patiently to get her muzzle put on. I love that the muzzle is so light and soft/flexible. Furthermore, it is brilliant that the material is see-through, which allows the other horses to see the mimic. Drinking with the muzzle is not an issue either, my pony can easily drink from a normal water fountain. Last but not least, the customer service from ThinLine is just fantastic. My muzzle got damaged at the eating hole, no idea what my pony did to it. I have sent a couple of pictures and asked for a replacement. Without any hesitation, I have received a new muzzle within a few days. I wish that there would be more companies out there with such a good customer service! Thank you Laurens for your super service and support. 🙂

5 out of 5 stars! I love this grazing muzzle! It's lightweight and durable. My horse loves it because it's not bulky like his other one. He hates the other ones. They're hard for him to breathe out of. Hoping a version for a miniature horse will be available soon!! My mini breaks grazing muzzles all the time.

Ok I don't normally review or recommend products, but this muzzle is amazing!!!! Rilly is 19 years old and has Cushings and Insulin Resistance. She had a Lamanitic flare up last spring. I have never been able to get her to wear a grazing muzzle. She gets frustrated or maybe claustrophobic and takes it out on the other horses. She will chase them and bully them, or just run around spooking at everything with a muzzle on. I have tried so many brands, fits, an we have even made the holes bigger on some and it's always a meltdown.
I saw this new muzzle form ThinLine Global and had to try it. I am not going to lie, I was super skeptical. When I got it I was impressed as it was much lighter and more flexible than I expected. Today was the first time turning her out in it and there was NO ADJUTMENT period!! I am honestly in shock! She is just calmly grazing and enjoying turnout as if she isn't wearing anything!!!
I will keep you all posted on how it holds up but so far I am soooo happy! It is so light, breathable, and best part is it allows all of the dirt or weeds she doesn't want to just fall though! She isn't stressed or head-tossing (which she did constantly with basket muzzles)!

I absolutely love the Flexible Filly Slow Feed Grazing Muzzle!!!!!! I've heard people say that it is just expensive plastic and complaints about the cost, but I will say this thing works great so it is worth it! Because of it my horse gets to spend spring and summer in the pasture instead of the pen. I like that you can choose your own breakaway dumbbell to go with it. My horse does have some rub marks from his halter so I ordered the thinline halter guards to help with that and am looking forward to seeing how well they work. I will say I feel like the zip ties that come with the halter would not keep my horse from losing his muzzle so I chose to get some a little stronger. I know they have a reason for the zip ties that come with it, but I just didn't feel they would be strong enough to keep my horse from losing his muzzle.
One very nice thing is you are given a trial period that if it is not working for you, you can send it back.
If you choose this muzzle I really hope it works as well for you as it has me. All the other muzzles out there are heavy or damage the horses teeth. This is lightweight and my horses teeth look good so far.
Once again, this is a great muzzle and I can't say enough good things about it.
